Joao De Magalhaes
On of the most passionate evangelist of longevity and medicine of the future, De Magalhaes is Associate Professor at the University of Liverpool in England. His lab studies the aging process and how we can manipulate it to fend off age-related diseases and improve human health. He helps maintain several databases on aging - among them - GenAge, AnAge, DrugAge, CellAge, GenDR, the Digital Aging Atlas, and Who's Who in Gerontology. His research group helped sequence the transcriptome of the long-lived bowhead whale. He also helps advise the Lifeboat Foundation.
For this episode of Journal Club, Oliver Medvedik, Dr. João Pedro de Magalhães, Steve Hill, and Lifespan Heroes discussed the CellAge database, which uses a systems biology approach to examine and better understand cellular senescence and its various pathways. The CellAge database contains information about 279 genes that are linked to the process of cellular senescence. This resource will provide researchers with a valuable tool for better understanding aging and developing therapies that address cellular senescence.
